Maine Coon Characteristics

The Maine Coon Characteristics: Extremely intelligent, trainable, described as “dog like”.

Your Maine Coon will offer you years of enjoyment with their hilarious shenanigans but at times they can be a little nosy or "intrusive".

Because Maine Coons have a fondness for water: when you least expect it they will help you bush you teeth or wash the dishes; they just jump in the shower or the bath tub with you. They love to play in their water. We have had them "mop the floor" ...  by running and sliding in the water they intentionally spilled.

There are times we will simply close the door and shut ourselves away, even though most days they are fun and their antics adorable, everyone needs a break once in a while. Especially since we have so many running around.

Most long haired cat breeds have difficult coats to care for. Even though the The Maine Coon coat has many colors and patterns his coat is silky and somewhat oily. It is not dense and its upkeep is much easier than that of other longhaired breeds. Maine Coons love to have your undevoted attention, so they love to be brushed, making it that much easier to care for their coats.

We only sell to homes that agree to keep their new maine coon cat addition indoors, have them spayed/neutered at the appropriate age (if purchased as a pet) be provided proper nutrition.

It is also important they have an access to furniture or surfaces that allow them to express their natural behaviors and feel safe and unthreatened. A Cat tree for scratching is also important (Most breeders disapprove of declawing or tendonectomy surgery and  it is very bad for the cat. That is why we have related stipulations as part of our contract) 

It is important to clean the litter pan clean on a regular basis. The cats are constantly licking their paws to keep them clean. 

Maine Coon Cats are available in a variety of about  75 different color combinations (with the exception of pointed pattern and colors) and two acceptable tabby patterns (classic and mackerel), there is a Maine Coon Cat just right for you.

Although it is impossible to predict longevity, with proper care and nutrition, your Maine Coon Cat should give you many years of love, enjoyment, and companionship.
